What is learning?

Learning is a relatively permanent change in behaviour as a result of an experience.

What is blended learning?

Blended learning means the learning activity involves more than one type of learning.  This could be on-site and on-line.  It could also mean independent (or self-led) or facilitator led.  Equip use all these types, depending on what will be most useful for our clients.

What is microlearning?

Micro learning is a fancy term for a short learning session or activity.  Learning facilitators have known for ages that small bursts of learning over longer periods are more effective than long sessions of learning over short periods of time (like 2-3 day workshops)

How do people learn best?

Short answer – the way that they prefer!  This may be with others, or independently.  Or by reading, observing, discussing, experimenting… Equip cater to all these learning preferences.  People learn best when they believe what they are learning is useful and relevant, and it can be connected to their existing knowledge.  They also learn by doing and receiving feedback.   All our facilitators are skilled in identifying and providing these conditions in our training sessions.

Is adult learning different to children’s learning?

In some ways yes.  Adults tend to be more purpose driven learners, meaning they often require learning is relevant to their situation and goals.  Adults also have considerable knowledge and skills, in which new learning has to be assimilated.  So new learning can involve “unlearning”, reframing, linking to and transferring existing knowledge and skills.

What are the common barriers to learning?

Discomfort is a key barrier to learning.  People may fear looking stupid, incompetent….  The bad news is, learning occurs at the edge of our comfort zone, so some discomfort is normal.  The good news is, Equip are experts in creating fun, safe learning environments and experiences, so people soon forget their discomfort and become absorbed in their learning!

What forms of learning facilitation do you offer?

We offer on-site, on-line and a combination of on-site and online delivery.  Our learning modules include facilitator led parts and independent learning parts.  We determine the split by the level of complexity and interaction needed for people to master the competency.

Can we tailor the learning content?

Absolutely!  We are learning specialists and can design a programme to suit your unique needs.  We also believe learning programmes are a great opportunity to incorporate your own organisational information, people and processes, and can work with you to find the relevant and most useful places to include these.
